Six Engaging Themes for Your Computer Hardware Blog

So you're thinking about starting a PC hardware blog (or maybe you are now since you scrolled on to this post). Excellent! This is a great time to launch your blog or start split testing various blog themes. The only question remaining is: What kind of topics and themes do you intend to cover?
I don’t know how many gyms have used this phrase in their advertising, but just because it isn’t original doesn’t make it irrelevant: Summer bodies are built in winter. Before COVID, this was a much less complicated concept. Lots of people join gyms during winter than at any other time, particularly right after the holidays.

That depends on a number of factors that are a little beyond the scope of this blog post. We are a copywriting company with an experienced team of technology marketing copywriters, not market analysts. Before embarking on your next tech blogging project, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Your target audience – Never try to be all things to all readers. There are enough niches within this subject area to be able to target your content. Don’t go the generic route. Figure out what your readers want and deliver it.

Your sources – This is especially important if you are writing in the news or upcoming products niches. Be sure you aren’t copying fake news from untrustworthy sources. Stick with industry websites and official communications. While we are talking about sources, I also recommend searching for press releases in niches that deal with new products, product development, or other news related to PC hardware.

Your metrics – Take the time to figure out which posts get the most engagement and emulate their success with subsequent posts that follow in theme, presentation, and keywords.

SEO – Optimized content will help your content be found and read faster and net your pages better long-term rankings in the search results. That means good use of relevant keywords, good formatting, and delivery of quality, readable, engaging content every time.

With all of the above in mind, let’s brainstorm a few themes and content areas you might want to consider for your PC hardware blog. Here are six key themes that I think you should be considering and split testing right now:

1. Upcoming PC Hardware Products

New stuff has an element of excitement attached to it that you can really use to capitalize on in your blog. Stay ahead of the wave and be among the first to report on new products, upgrades, and other enhancements and details your readers want and need to know.

I’ll reiterate here the importance of accuracy. It’s fine to report on rumors and speculation as long as those details are framed as such. Keep in mind, however, that real, verifiable information will get you much further in the long run, especially if you’re reporting on new product launches early. Stay informed by frequently visiting blogs, social media channels, and websites of popular companies and brands.

2. PC Hardware News

The best sources for news on new hardware launches and other details come from the manufacturers themselves. Get on as many email lists as you can. This is likely to be how you get early info on what’s coming to market and get accurate information. Keeping current on industry press releases would also be beneficial to your content creation efforts if your emphasis is on industry news.

Also, keep in mind that this kind of blog is more journalistic than editorial. People associate news with fact, not opinion, so save the editorial content for blog types centered on reviews and ratings (which we will get to in a minute). Include all relevant specs and details and triple-check those details before publishing your posts.

3. PC Hardware Q&A

There is a little more wiggle room for editorial content with a blog centered on Q&A. You can feature individual products or groups of products (think topics like “top 5 graphics cards for modern MMORPGs”). Compare key specs and get into the pros and cons. Have a controversial opinion about a specific graphics card, brand of memory, or SSD drives? This is a great way to engage readers and stop the scroll long enough to check out your latest post.

4. PC Gaming Hardware

This is a huge niche with readers who are constantly looking to upgrade hardware to improve gaming performance. In this instance, you can zero in on the hardware and also topics like peripherals and which ones work the best with different motherboards, graphics cards, and more.

The possibilities here are also very robust and open for more in the way of editorial content. Have strong opinions about how responsive game controllers are with one main board over another? Your readers would love to know your opinions. These topics are also great springboards for conversation among users, so be sure to encourage discussion on your social media channels.

Far too few marketers, in my opinion, utilize the comments sections of their blogs. This is another avenue for you to drive engagement. Leave calls to action for readers to reply with their own opinions and experiences as they relate to the content of your post.

5. PC Hardware Reviews and Ratings

Not only is this a great content area for editorializing, but it’s also an easy one through which to implement curated content since many of the reviews and ratings in question are likely to come from other sources. As part of your curation strategy, you can add your own reviews and ratings, so your readers get a better idea of what you like and don’t. This is especially important if you are trying to sell hardware through your blog. Your opinion matters, so make sure yours is thorough, compelling, and, most importantly, objective.

6. PC Hardware Performance

Like to geek out in your blogging? Try covering topics like overclocking, high-end, high-performance hardware, and more. Tell your readers why they should choose one CPU, cooling unit, etc., over another. Blog about performance specs as it relates to every aspect of computing and productivity from gaming to video streaming to audio and video production and more. This is another wide-reaching niche with loads of possibilities to create engaging content.
