If you’re looking for someone to do your writing, it pretty much goes without saying that you’re looking for something original and unique. Not having it plagiarized is the bare minimum. Beyond that, you’re looking for that “special something” – after all, if it were just any old thing, anyone could do it, right?
At BeezContent, we use the term “custom writing” to cover pretty much anything that doesn’t fall into one of our other categories, such as copywriting, article writing, press releases, blog posts – you get the drift. Needless to say, “custom writing” can cover quite a bit of ground since it’s a “catch all,” if you will. Most of the time, the requests we receive for custom writing services are for such things as resumes, business proposals, video scripts, speeches, or other professional-purpose materials – but every once in a while, we’ll receive a different kind of request.
Let’s face it – when it comes to writing services, there’s a line drawn in the sand between ethics and non-ethics. And there’s a big question about where that line gets drawn exactly … so where does that line come in for us?
In a nutshell, when it pertains to personally getting ahead.
Business and personal gain are typically two very different things. Business custom writing tends to aid in a presentation, marketing, or PR effort. These types of custom writing services are the creative kind of work that companies often bring on marketing or advertising agencies to facilitate, because, let’s face it – creative minds work a bit differently than analytical minds do.
In contrast, personal gain custom writing requests tend to come in the form of requests for essays or coursework. And, well, we just don’t do that.
The Two Sides of the Custom Writing Ethics Line
While we might be “words people,” we’re also visual people – so here’s the lowdown on what makes something fall in the yay or nay side of our line:
• Is it for business purposes? (If so, you’re likely good to go.) • Is your material for coursework or a requirement to fulfill a personal assignment of sorts? (If so, we’re not your service … sorry.) • Do you have permission to bring on a custom writing service from the higher-ups? (If so, drop us a line.)
• Are you looking for a replication of an existing material that you do not own the rights to? (If so, you may want to reconsider your goal – plagiarism is a strict “no” for any service, but if you need something 100% unique, let us know.)
• Do you need original materials? (Great! We’re in.)
Of course, the world does not come in strict “good” and “bad” sides … that would just be too easy. So let’s take a look at the ethics for some of the “grey” line items.
• Resumes – Totally fine, and in fact, we’re happy to help. People hire resume writing services all the time, and for good reason; your resume is what gets people interested and gets you in the door. It’s still your experience and your credentials – and, let’s not forget, your interview to ace. We’re just the people who turn those things into a story to make an intriguing first impression.
• Articles and Essays – Again, totally great, assuming they are for professional purposes and not educational attainment purposes. Need an essay for your thesis or final grade? Better look elsewhere – or even better, do it yourself! The caveat here is that we are happy to edit or proofread your coursework, provided that you have done the writing yourself and that it is not for a class such as English, journalism, etc. where your editing skills and prowess have a hand in your grade. But the real intent of our article and essay custom writing is to serve the business community in creating custom materials that turn their own individuals’ knowledge into something interesting and readable for the masses. The difference? Your knowledge vs. our knowledge.
• Reports – Again, this one is an issue of double meaning in the English language. We will develop business reports to summarize data from your own research or for presentation purposes. We will not write a report on “Catcher in the Rye” for your lit class.
When it comes to ethics, everyone has to decide where to draw their own line. We know that there are plenty of services out there that stay in business writing college thesis and term papers – we just aren’t one of them.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and in supporting our business clients in their growth through custom writing materials. We personally have taken the stand that we are a professional writing organization, that we work with professional writers, and that our team should sleep soundly at night and feel proud of the organization they work for and of their own work.
At the end of the day, we love what we do, and our custom writing clients bring us some of our most interesting and fun projects! So if you have a need for anything custom written, from video scripts to resumes, business proposals to reports, or beyond, please get in touch.
Have a question about your custom writing needs or need to know which side of the line it falls on (to us)? Drop us a line.
