How to Market VPN Services

I don’t know how many gyms have used this phrase in their advertising, but just because it isn’t original doesn’t make it irrelevant: Summer bodies are built in winter. Before COVID, this was a much less complicated concept. Lots of people join gyms during winter than at any other time, particularly right after the holidays.

Online privacy is becoming more and more a hot-button issue by the day. One of the most popular solutions to Internet privacy is the use of virtual private networks or VPNs. Virtual private networking has been used since before the advent of the consumer internet, mainly to allow for open communication over corporate networks. Business travel and remote job sites have been benefitting from VPNs long before there was any consumer need for them.

Today, individuals are opting for VPN access for a number of reasons, not all of them above-board. If you’ve been thinking about marketing VPN services, there are a few things you need to understand. First, this is a very good niche with a vast audience. There is money to be made here. Second, most people are looking at VPNs as a means to circumvent a variety of online rules (like accessing streaming service feeds from other countries, etc.). Lastly, you must frame your marketing in a way that doesn’t leave you vulnerable to legal action.

Today, I want to offer some helpful advice about some of the dos and don’ts of marketing VPN services. Yes, this is a great market with huge potential. However, don’t risk losing it all by marketing VPN in a questionable way.

Become an Affiliate

The first thing you want to do is decide on one or more VPN services you might want to remarket. The easiest way to go about this is to become an affiliate. Most, if not all, VPN services have affiliate programs, so finding one (or more) should be easy. In fact, I recommend affiliating with a few and split testing which services net the most conversions. Affiliates often do a lot of their own marketing, and some market their services better than others.

Not only that, but some also have very questionable ways about which they go about their marketing. I recommend affiliating with services that stick to their own marketing and don’t try to sweeten the pot with additional links to things like independent IPTV services that offer thousands of channels for $5-20 per month. If they are charging that little, they aren’t maintaining the proper licenses to resell the channels they offer. This is a serious and legitimate consideration if you want to avoid legal entanglements that filter through your own marketing efforts.

Corporate Vs. Consumer

One easy way to keep things on a legal, above-board level is to deal mainly or exclusively incorporate VPN services. This is a smaller market, but still, one that can be successfully tapped if you are good at or have access to services that provide high-quality B2B marketing content. Online privacy and security will always be more important at the corporate level than the consumer level, but there will always be higher demand in the consumer market.

When it comes to marketing VPN to consumers, I’ll simply refer you to the previous section. Don’t get entangled with VPN providers that offer questionable services, which leave you vulnerable to legal action. At a minimum, you should be working with providers that let their affiliates decide on the specific products and services they wish to market and don’t insist on blanket affiliate links that lead to legally vague products or services.

Highlight Legal Reasons for Increased Privacy

Develop content that convinces people to use VPN for reasons that don’t carry any liabilities. I highly recommend going to independent sources for information like this, not to sites that market VPN services. There are plenty of reasons people want to protect their privacy that has nothing to do with questionable or illegal activity.

Research a few of the more compelling ones and start developing content around them. Good marketers can and do find ways to develop loads of content from a single idea or concept. They can also partner with digital marketing services and independent content creation services to help spur things along.

Don’t Recommend Illegal Implementations

On the heels of the rest of my advice, this probably sounds a bit redundant. However, I feel like it’s important to be very direct. There are numerous reasons not to get entangled in businesses and marketing efforts that carry legal consequences. Moreover, no reputable content marketing service will ever agree to help with marketing initiatives that break the law, and this includes BeezContent.

The other side of that argument is that any professional copywriting service should also be able to steer your marketing in a direction that is successful and ethical. Take the advice of the people you work with seriously. Doing so will help guarantee that any money you make stays in your pockets and doesn’t get into the hands of lawyers or legal channels that single you out as a reseller.

Don’t Market Questionable Products in Conjunction With VPN

Again, I’ve eluded to this concept a few times already, and again I’m going to expand on the thought. VPN does provide the opportunity to tap into product areas that may or may not carry legal consequences for selling. Things that facilitate access to content in any of these areas could be hot-button issues for you later on:

• Circumventing FCC rules

• Allowing access to content from other countries

• Removing age restrictions on content

• Violation of Copyright and other considerations that exist under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)

• Circumventing other restrictions existent with content absent of VPN

Considering all of the above will keep your efforts above-board and allow you to keep cash flow for your efforts positive. There is no such thing as a marketing venture that is worth the personal and financial risk involved with questionable marketing or business practices. Please keep this in mind.
